A 55-year-old woman, Sajeda Khatun, was electrocuted while trying to operate a water pump to provide drinking water for livestock at Mukshidpur village under Khoksa in Kushtia on Friday.
Quoting people of the area, Khoksa police station officer-in-charge Sheikh Moynul Islam said that the incident took place around 11:00am when Sajeda entered the family’s cowshed to start an electric motor and accidentally came into contact with a live wire. ‘She was seriously injured on the spot.’
People of the area later rescued Sajeda and took her to Kushtia General Hospital where on-duty doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.
‘The police are looking into the matter,’ the OC added.
The family resides near the char area of the Gorai River, where access to reliable and safe electricity infrastructure remains limited.
Her relatives urged the authorities to investigate the faulty wiring and take preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in rural areas, where out-dated electrical installations and lack of safety awareness continue to pose serious risks.
