Fisheries and livestock adviser Farida Akhtar at a programme in Dhaka on Friday called on the women of the country to come forward in every field to build future Bangladesh.
‘Women are ahead in terms of skill, commitment and sincerity. Therefore, women will be the main force in future Bangladesh,’ she said while speaking as chief guest at the ‘July Kanya Award 2025’ programme at the Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh.
In a press release, Farida said that from the policy-making stage, they had been trying how to bring the women participants in the July-August mass uprising to the fore. ‘But unfortunately, they are not given proper space in major national-level programmes.’
Mentioning the contributions of the women in the July uprising is unforgettable, she said, ‘Mothers played an important role behind every movement.’
The adviser further said that from the Language Movement to the Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising, women were at the forefront. ‘But after independence or after the movement, there was a tendency to restrict the place of women to the marginalised level, which is in no way acceptable.’
She also emphasised that 51 per cent of the country’s women could not be left behind anymore. ‘No one gives them their rights, they have to be earned. The main task of the July Kanya Foundation should be to ensure the advancement of women wherever they are.’
Organised by the July Kanya Foundation, founder and president of the foundation Jannatul Nayeem Promi presided over the programme.
Mother of Abrar Fahad, Stamford University student Nusrat Jahan Tumpa, mother of Shaheed Naeema Sultana and an injured in the July uprising Ayman spoke at the programme.
At the event, 100 selected women were officially presented with the July Kanya Award 2025 crest. In addition, their life and work-based success stories were also highlighted so that other women can be inspired.
