The students of Sunamganj Science and Technology University and Sunamganj Textile University blocked the Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway for half an hour on Thursday, demanding justice for three people, including two students, who died in a recent road accident.
The protesting students chanted various slogans, demanding road safety and punishment of those responsible for the deaths.
Students started demonstration at about 11:00am, checked fitness and licenses of the vehicles, halting traffic on the highway for half an hour.
Later, they withdrew the blockade following the request of police considering the sufferings of the HSC examinees.
They issued an ultimatum of 12 hours demanding the arrest of the driver of the vehicle, involved in the fatal accidents.
‘It has been more than 24 hours since our sister was killed, yet the administration has not taken proper steps to arrest the killer bus driver. If they fail to act, we will intensify our movement,’ one of the protesting students said.
