Information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuz Alam on Monday said that the footfalls of 1/11 (the January 11, 2007, event)  were heard.

The 1/11 refers to the takeover of power by the 2007-2008 military-controlled interim government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed on January 11, 2007.

‘The footfalls of 1/11 are being heard. But, July will win. The people’s struggle will not be defeated,’ said Mahfuz in a Facebook post from his verified account on Monday evening.

The July mass uprising ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

Interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus referred Mahfuz as the ‘mastermind’ of the past year’s July mass uprising.

Amid the uprising, deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024, and took shelter there.

In another Facebook post, Mahfuz later on the day said that no one’s contributions to the

July mass uprising should be denied considering the partisan conflicts and ideologies.

Mahfuz said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Ganatantrik Chhatra Shakti, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad,

Islamic scholars and madrassah students, workers and private university students, cultural and professional bodies and a rebellious section of Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League contributed to the July uprising.

On July 31, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned of the recurrence of the 1/11, if people are not united.
