The housing and public works ministry has abolished the classifying of contractors into categories during their enlistment to expedite public procurement more transparently and efficiently.
In this regard, the ministry on July 29 issued a directive instructing all its subordinate offices and agencies to discontinue the practice of classifying contractors into categories such as ‘A’, ‘B’, or ‘C’ during their enlistment.
The directive signed by the ministry’s deputy secretary, Farida Yasmin, also asked the entities concerned to take initiatives to relist contractors.
It stated that all enlistment activities must be conducted in compliance with the Public Procurement Rules, 2008, without applying any form of contractor classification.
The directive has been sent to the related authorities, including Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, National Housing Authority, Urban Development Directorate, Public Works Department, Department of Architecture, Chattogram Development Authority, Khulna Development Authority, Rajshahi Development Authority, Cox’s Bazar Development Authority, Housing and Building Research Institute, Government Housing Directorate and Internal Audit Directorate.
