The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has requested people to avoid the Shahbagh, Central Shaheed Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan areas in the capital Dhaka today due to multiple political programmes scheduled for the day.

The DMP made the request through a public notice on Saturday, saying that normal vehicular movement, especially through Shahbagh crossing, would be severely disrupted today due to rallies and events, with large crowds expected in these areas.

Dhaka residents are urged to leave for their destinations and candidates for the Higher School Certificate or its equivalent and Bangladesh Civil Service examinations to leave for their examination centres with sufficient time in hand.

According to the notice, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s rally is to be held at the Shahbagh crossing from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and a National Citizen Party’s rally is to be organised at Shaheed Minar from 3:00pm to 6:00pm today, demanding the ‘July Declaration’ and ‘July Charter’.

Additionally, Saimum Shilpi Gosthi, a cultural organisation, continues its ‘July uprising’ programme at Suhrawardy Udyan from 10:00am to 10:00pm daily in August 1-4.

The HSC or its equivalent and BCS examinations are taking place today at various centres across the city.

City residents are advised to use alternative routes via diversion points, including Hotel Intercontinental, Katabon, Matsya Bhaban, TSC or Raju Sculpture and adjacent roads.
