Two Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists were arrested on Saturday on charge of snatching three sacks of rice meant for poor women.
The arrested are Mizanur Rahman Biswas and Laltu Biswas of Dhaldah village under Sharsha upazila.
Both the arrested are reportedly activists of the local unit of the BNP and followers of BNP Sharsha upazila unit vice-president Aminur Rahman.
BNP leader Aminur Rahman, however, denied that they were not his followers.
‘They are only members of BNP supporter families,’ he added.
Ulashi union council administrator Abdur Rashed said that a case was filed with the Sharsha police station by Nazmul Hossain, secretary of the union council, accusing the two for snatching three sacks of rice meant for the poor women.
‘The sacks were distributed to women and when they heading home with the rice snatchers swooped on them,’ he added.
Sharsha police officer-in-charge KM Rabiul Islam confirmed the arrests.
He, however, said that the arrested held no posts in any political party.
