
A staff member of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in the capital’s Banani area was critically injured after being shot on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Jamal Hossain, 40, son of late Munnaf Ali. He was residing at the hospital’s staff quarters in Mohakhali.
According to his brother Sajal, who brought him to the hospital, the incident occurred around 8:00pm in front of the hospital’s 4th class employees’ club.
Two unidentified assailants wearing masks approached and fired a single round targeting Jamal’s right eye.
Jamal was a former secretary of the 4th class staff association.
Following the shooting, his relatives rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 9:25pm.
He is currently undergoing treatment in ward no 3 and remains in critical condition, said the DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Faruque Mia.
