
The number of people that India has pushed into Bangladesh since May has exceeded 2,000 with 27 people newly pushed into the country on Thursday.
On Thursday, the Border Security Force of India pushed 17 through two border points in Panchagarh district and 10 others through a border point in Naogaon district.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has increased to 2,020.
The BSF has so far pushed at least 169 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India, into Bangladesh.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Panchagarh reported that 10 people were pushed into Bangladesh through Bangalpara border in Panachar sadar upazila, while seven were pushed in through Bhajanpur border in Tetulia upazila early Thursday.
Border Guard Bangladesh 56 battalion deputy commander Major Kazi Asif Ahmad said that the BSF had unlawfully pushed 10 people into Bangladesh through the border area under the 56 battalion’s jurisdiction.
‘We have detained them and handed them over to the Panchagarh police,’ he added.
BGB 18 battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Monir said that they detained seven people pushed in by the BSF and handed them over to the Tetulia police.
All of the 17 detainees had entered India illegally at different times and worked there, BGB officials said, adding that recently, the Indian police arrested them from different places in Odisha and Maharashtra.
Later, they were handed over to the BSFand eventually were pushed into Bangladesh.
Among the detainees, nine were women and eight men, and were residents of Jashore, Naogaon, Sylhet, Khagrachari, Barisal, Cox’s Bazar, Gopalganj and Narsingdi distrcits, according to the police.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that the BSF pushed 10 people into Bangladesh through Agardigun border point in Dhamoirhat upazila in Naogaon.
BGB members detained them and handed them over to the police station concerned for further steps.
