
Soil scientist Professor Mohammad Saiful Alam has assumed office as the 14th proctor of Gazipur Agricultural University.
He succeeds Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad in this administrative role, said a press release on Monday.
Professor Alam is widely recognised both nationally and internationally for his scholarly contributions to soil science.
With over 70 peer-reviewed research publications to his name, his academic work reflects a commitment to sustainable agriculture, soil health and environmentally friendly land management practices.
He earned his PhD in 2013 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and later completed post-doctoral research at Nagoya University, Japan during 2018–2019.
His scientific insights and innovations have significantly impacted the fields of soil sustainability and agricultural ecology.
Professor Alam began his academic career at Gazipur Agricultural University in 2006 as a lecturer in the department of soil science.
Over the years, he was promoted to the rank of professor in 2018. Between 2014 and 2016, he served as head of the department of soil science.
Prior to his appointment as proctor, he served as director of Student Welfare from September 2024.
