
A group of attackers stabbed a leader of the Students Against Discrimination in Sylhet city Thursday night.
The victim, Towfique Omar Tanvir, is an organiser of the Sylhet city unit of the SAD and a son of Harun Miah, an assistant professor of Saheber Bazar School and College under sadar upazila in the district, the police said.
Tanvir told journalists at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital early Friday that he fetched a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the city鈥檚 Madina Market area at about 11:30pm on Thursday to go home.
A group of about 15 people suddenly surrounded the auto-rickshaw there, forced its driver to get out, stabbed him twice in his left thigh, and fled the scene, he alleged.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam said that they arrested a youth, Maruf Ahmed, son of Ansar Ali of the Noapara area in the city, in this connection.
