A group of youths are setting up ‘International Fascism and Genocide Research Institute’ at the Awami League headquarters in Gulistan, Dhaka.

A group of youths claiming to be students and general people said that they were setting up ‘International Fascism and Genocide Research Institute’ at the Awami League headquarters on Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue in Gulistan, Dhaka.

During a visit to the site on Friday afternoon, the group was seen supervising the cleaning activities of the AL headquarters.

Some people in the group, however, claimed that they were injured in the past year’s student-mass uprising that ousted the Awami League regime from power.

Md Mujahidul Islam, who claimed that he received bullet injury in Jatrabari during the uprising, told ¶¶̉ơ¾«Æ· that they wished to establish the research institute so that no political party could turn fascist in the future.

At the time of the visit, a motor pump was set up on the AL headquarters building, abandoned following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime, for the cleaning activities being supervised by the group of youths.

Several people in the group claimed that they were doing a good job but did not disclose that if they had any political affiliation.

Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, a pipeline inspector of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, told ¶¶̉ơ¾«Æ· that they had been working since 10:00am on Friday after the National Citizen Party made a phone call to their office.

‘We will clean just the office using the water motor. The rest of the cleaning job would be done by the city corporation,’ he said.

Asked about whether the NCP took the initiative to establish the institute, NCP senior joint convener Samanta Shermeen said that their party central committee was unaware of such activities.

‘We did not ask the WASA to provide the motor. We have no plan to occupy anyone’s office or establish any organisation in other people’s place. If anyone uses the name of the NCP for doing such thing, we will take actions against them,’ Samanta added.

On May 12, the interim government banned all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated, allied, and like-minded organisations until the completion of the trials of the party and its leaders by the International Crimes Tribunal.
