
The 49th battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh has seized smuggled goods worth about Tk 43.68 crore from the bordering areas of Jashore district in first seven months of the year.
The border force also arrested 69 smugglers from the area during their drives.
The 49th battalion of the BGB has been guarding 70-kilometre border of the district with Indian state of West Bengal and trying to resist cross-border smuggling.
Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commanding officer of BGB 49th battalion, told BSS that they seized 7.554 kilograms of smuggled gold, 70.5kg of silver, $37,80,000, a country-made pistol with seven rounds of bullet, 7500 bottles
of phensidyl syrup, 1862 bottles of foreign liquor, 17000 pieces of narcotic related injections, 197kg of cannabis and huge Indian sarees, three pieces, blankets, cosmetics and medicines during the time.
