Poet Bratya Raisu has withdrawn himself from a 19-member committee formed by the cultural affairs ministry to bring about quality changes and reforms in Bangla Academy.
The committee was formed on July 7 to suggest reforms in Bangla Academy, an autonomous institution under the ministry.
Raisu told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he withdrew himself from the committee by submitting a letter on July 8.
He said that through newspaper reports and social media, he came to know that he was included in the committee.
On Tuesday, Raisu in a post on his verified Facebook account wrote about his withdrawal from the committee.
According to his Facebook post, initially Raisu had agreed to the proposal in this connection but he did not confirm his participation in the committee and requested the academy’s director general to take a final consent before including him in the committee. But the final consent was not taken, he wrote.
‘I feel if I join this committee, my reputation may be damaged and my efforts may not be evaluated and considered at all because they did not act responsibly in appointing members,’ he wrote in the Facebook post.
The ministry appointed former civil servant and adjunct professor at Independent University Bangladesh Faizul Latif Chowdhury as president and Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Azam as member secretary of the committee formed for three months.Â
