
The police arrested 25 individuals, including two women, on charges of selling and consuming different sorts of drugs in Sylhet on Saturday evening.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammed Saiful Islam said that the police conducted a drive at Kastaghar Sweeper Colony in the city, which is known as a hideout of drugs peddlers and addicts, and arrested them for their involvement in peddling and consuming drugs.
‘In the drive, 158 litre locally made liquor, 220 Yaba pills, hemp and Tk 57,050 in cash earned from selling drugs were seized in possessions of several people,’ he said.
The arrested are Zakir Hossain, 32, Safar Ali, 35, Abdur Rakib, 24, Monir Hossain, 32, Ashik Lal, 22, Delwar Hossain, 37, Paplu Lal Bashfur, 30, Mustakim Ahmed Ananda, 20, Antar Bashfur, 21, Mithun Bashfur, 19, Lakshan Lal, 40, Biplab Lal, 19, Akhter Hossain, 45, Akash Rot, 19, Shuva Lal, 37, Aksh Sarker, 25, Ajit Barman, 32, Titu Lal, 21, Munna Lal, 32, Al Amin Miah, 25, Owm Lal, 19, Sakibul Islam, 31, Rashik Lal, 38, Butki Rani, 55, and Salma Begum, 32, the police said.
Saiful Islam also said that the arrested were produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate court in Sylhet and the court ordered to send them to jail.
