A youth stabbed a hotel employee to death in Sylhet on Sunday morning following an altercation over a trivial matter.
The deceased Ruman, 22, was an employee of a hotel adjacent to the Kazir Bazar wholesale fish market in the city, police said.
Local residents said that a youth came to the hotel at about 9:00am and ordered a cup of tea.
After a few minutes, the youth locked into an altercation with Rumon due to his alleged delay in serving him tea, they said.
The hotel owner and the other customers present there, however, managed to cool down the youth and settled the issue at that time.
‘But the youth along with a few others came back to the hotel after a few minutes and he stabbed Ruman and then fled the scene,’ Sylhet Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Md Ziaul Haque told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, quoting the hotel owner.
He said that after receiving the news, the police rushed to the spot, which is nearly a half kilometre away from the police station, and took the victim to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
‘The attending doctors of the hospital’s emergency department declared him dead on arrival,’ the police official said.
He said that the victim’s body was taken to the hospital morgue at noon for a post-mortem examination.
‘Efforts to arrest the suspected killers are going on,’ he said in the afternoon.
