The body of Asif Ahmed, another Chittagong University student who, along with two fellows, went missing in the rough sea in Cox’s Bazar, was recovered on Wednesday morning.

With Asif’s body, two bodies have been recovered, while their classmate Aritra Hasan still remained missing in over 36 hours after they had gone missing at Tuesday dawn near Himchhari beach.


Cox’s Bazar district Tourist Police inspector Md Abdul Mukit said that they recovered the body of Asif Ahmed, son of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Bogura sadar, immediately after they were informed in the morning that it was found.

Body of another missing student, Sadman Rahman Sabbab, son of KM Anisur Rahman of Pallabi at Mirpur in Dhaka, was recovered about an hour after the three development studies students of academic year 2023–24 went missing.

‘We could not still trace my son. We are waiting as operations to find my son are going on,’ said Aritra’s father Aminul Islam, also known as Sakib Hasan, a senior sub-editor at ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

Aminul along with his family reached Cox’s Bazar hours after the tragic incident happened on Tuesday.

Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were giving their all-out effort to rescue Aritra.

‘Our teams are patrolling in the sea as far as Moheshkhali to recover the body. The sea is rough. We are giving our best effort,’ the DC said.

Five CU students, including those went missing, travelled to Cox’s Bazar. Afterwards, at dawn on Tuesday, they went to the beach and despite the sea was rough, three of them proceeded to take bath, said district administration and police officials, who also said that the three students did not know swimming.
