The police have not yet been able to detain or arrest anyone as more than 24 hours have passed after a mother with her daughter and son were beaten to death in Cumilla’s Muradnagar Thursday morning.
No case has been filed either in the incident as of Friday evening, said the police.
Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bangra Bazar police, under whose jurisdiction the place of incident fell, said that the victims’ family members said they would file a case.
‘They will submit a complaint,’ he said.
The police were reviewing the CCTV footage in an attempt to identify those involved in the incident, OC Mahfuzur said, adding that their operation to catch them was ongoing.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Rokhsana Akhter alias Ruby, 53, her son Rasel Mia, 35, and daughter Jonaki Akhter, 25, were beaten to death at their home allegedly for their involvement in drug peddling.
Seriously injured in the attack, Ruby’s another daughter Ruma Akhter is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
Ruby’s home is in the busy Koraibari bus stand area surrounded by many shops and businesses along the Muradnagar-Nabinagar road.
On Friday, most of the businesses in the area were closed as panic struck the area after the killings, said some of the local residents.
A resident of Koraibari village, on condition of anonymity, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a mob of at least 1,000 people attacked Ruby’s house on Thursday and lynched her along with her two children.
‘Many youths of the area were in the mob in Thursday. Most of the houses became empty as many went into hiding in fear of arrest,’ the resident said.
