
Bangladesh interim government education adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar on Thursday said the work of establishing one technical school and college in every upazila of the country is under way to turn the population of Bangladesh into human resources.
‘We want to develop a manpower rich in technical knowledge apart from conventional education system. For this, the government is taking appropriate steps to make the technical education system more effective,’ he told an interview with BSS at Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.
Abrar said the work of establishing technical schools and colleges is already being taken forward in phases in 493 Upazilas.
In various districts, 85 schools have already started taking classes for their students, he said, adding land acquisition and construction of buildings and teacher recruitment activities are underway for the rest.
He said the education adviser hoped the Directorate of Technical Education will take forward its activities in the same way.
There is no alternative to educating the youths in technical education to increase job opportunities in the labor market in the country and abroad, he said.
When asked, Technical and Madrasa Education Secretary Dr KM Kabirul Islam said three acres of land will be acquired for each technical school and 100 well-furnished hostels will be built there for female students.
In addition, dormitories for teachers, a residential building for the principal and an academic cum workshop building will be built, he said adding although there is no allocation for the construction of any hostel for students, the government is serious about building student hostels in future.
Director general (Additional Secretary) of the Directorate of Technical Education Shoaib Ahmad Khan told BSS that about 840 students will get admission in technical schools and colleges in each upazila.
Students from classes VI to VIII will be taught pre-vocational and from classes IX to XII at least four trades will be taught, he said.
In addition, training in various trades including SSC (Vocational) and HSC (Vocational) courses will be provided, he added.
The DG said about 75 teachers will be appointed in each technical schools and colleges. Each school will have a female hostel for 200 seats, a teacher dormitory, and a modern laboratory, he said, adding through this project, the opportunities for technical education will be further expanded in various upazilas of the country and students will receive appropriate training for employment.
Shoaib Ahmad said that 4 trades of each technical school and college, equipment and necessary furniture for labs and workshops will be purchased and supplied, 6,400 permanent posts will be created for managing the educational activities of technical schools and colleges, and 400 posts will be created for performing work through outsourcing.
Several lakh students will study from class VI to class XII, he said.
