The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday initiated inquiry against five more officials of the National Board of Revenue over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through corruption.

The five officials are Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin, commissioner of customs, excise and VAT of Dhaka East; Md Kamruzzaman, commissioner at Benapole Land Port; Md Mamun Mia, deputy tax commissioner of circle-7 in Rajshahi; Sehela Siddika, additional tax commissioner at the Income Tax Intelligence Unit; and Lokman Ahmed, tax inspector at tax zone-2 of Dhaka.


ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam confirmed about the inquiry against the fresh five officials of NBR.

With this, a total of 16 NBR officials come under the ACC probe over allegations of corruption.

On June 29, the ACC announced its decision to conduct inquiry into allegation of corruption against six NBR officials amid a movement under the banner of ‘NBR Reform Unity Council’ demanding the removal of the NBR chairman and an end to what they call ‘vengeful transfers’.

Later, on July 1, ACC also initiated inquiry against five more officials of NBR.
