The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has banned the carrying of sharp weapons and the use of firecrackers during Tajia processions on July 6, marking holy Ashura, citing public safety concerns.

The ban, issued through a public notice on Wednesday and signed by acting DMP commissioner Md Sarwar, is enforced under sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance. It will remain in effect from the start to the end of the processions.

According to the notice, items such as knives, daggers, swords, spears, iron rods, and flammable materials are strictly prohibited as they pose risks to public safety.

The DMP noted that such items, often seen in previous processions, have caused injuries and spread panic among the public.
