Three members of a family, including an engineering university student, were killed after being hit by a truck in Uttara area of Dhaka on early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Amit, 23, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology and his relatives Naimul Haque ,32, an employee at a private firm, and Javed Alam Khan 55.
The trio was standing on the roadside at Azampur intersection under Uttara East Police Station at about 2:00am when the stone-laden truck from Mymensingh ran over them, said officer-in-charge of Uttara East Police Station Md Golam Mostafa.
Two of them died on the spot while the third one was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, the OC said.
The bodies were kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
The victims were returning home after visiting a patient at a nearby hospital.
The truck was seized and its driver Rakibul Islam was detained, the OC added.
