Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has formed a High Court bench with a view to quick disposal of Waqf-related cases.
An order was issued by the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on Thursday in this regard, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday.
The two-member bench comprising Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Md Mansur Alam has been directed to begin proceedings from Sunday.
The bench was given the responsibility to hear different issues, especially writ petitions including Waqf, liberation war and income tax issues, on a priority basis.
Referring to the Supreme Court notice, the ministry鈥檚 release said that religious affairs adviser AFM Khalid Hossain had earlier brought the matter to the chief justice鈥檚 notice.
The press release also stated that hundreds of Waqf administration cases remained unresolved in the higher courts for years, leading to mismanagement and loss of Waqf properties.
If the assigned new bench can dispose of these cases timely, it is expected to restore discipline in the management of Waqf estates and boost the efficiency of the Waqf administration, said the release.
