Three youths were killed and one received bullet injuries in separate incidents in Khulna Thursday night.
In Rupsha upazila, three youths received serious bullet injuries at around 9:00pm during a shooting incident between two rival groups at Sohel’s residence in the Rajapur village under Rupsha upazila in the district.
The deceased are Sabbir, 27, and Saddam Hossain, 29, son of Nur Islam of Sonar Bangla lane under Sobadang police station in the city. Sabbir’s identity could not be known in details.
Md Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Rajapur police camp under Rupsha upazila, said that three youths received serious bullet injuries during a gunfight between two rival groups.
They were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Sabbir dead.
Saddan also died on the way while he was shifting to Dhaka for better treatment, he said, adding that another youth Miraz alias Kaua Miraz, 29, managed to flee the hospital during treatment.
‘Both victims were reportedly members of a local gang led, by a notorious criminal ‘Grenade Babu’, the OC said.
A rival group launched a gun attack, leading to a violent shooting, the police officer said, adding that two live bullets and two empty shells were recovered from the scene.
Police have launched a drive to arrest the attackers, he added.
Meanwhile, Babul Dutta, 50, a sand and land trader, was brutally murdered in the Rajbandh South Para area of Khulna city under Harintana police station at around 9:00pm Thursday.
Harintana police station OC Khairul Bashar said that Babul was returning home by his motorcycle when assailants intercepted and dragged him into an empty plot where they slit his throat.
Police recovered the body at around 10:30pm and sent it to hospital for autopsy.
OC Khairul said that the motive behind the killing had remained unclear, adding that legal procedures were underway.
