At least four people were killed in road accidents in Meherpur, Sylhet and Cumilla on Wednesday. 

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that two motorcycle riders were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on while overtaking a car in front of the Forest Department in Meherpur town.


The deceased are Mahafuzur Rahman Kallol, 48, a resident of Gaharpur village under the sadar upazila and also an assistant engineer of the Gangni Upazila Public Health Department and Higher Secondary Certificate examinee Akmal Hossain, 20, of Sheikhpara in Meherpur town.

Meherpur Sadar police officer-in-charge Mesbah Uddin said that they were taken to Meherpur General Hospital where the doctor on duty declared both of them dead.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that a motorcyclist was killed after being crushed under a speeding truck on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.

The deceased, Md Anwar Hossain, is a salesperson of ACI Company, said Tamabil highway police OC Habibur Rahman.  ‘The truck and damaged motorcycle were seized from the spot, but the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately after the incident,’ he said.

The BSS reported that a college student was killed after his motorcycle hit a roadside tree on the Cumilla-Sylhet Highway in the Charbakar area of Debidwar upazila of Cumilla. 

The deceased, Saidul Islam, 25, of Kangshnagar village in Burichang upazila of the district, was a first-year honours student of Cumilla Victoria College, said Mirpur highway police OC Parvez Ali.
