One more dengue patient died in hospital in the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Sunday while 329 others were hospitalised across Bangladesh after being infected by the viral fever.

The deceased is a man aged between 21 and 25 years and was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.


Including the latest, a total of 32 people died of dengue this year and 7,758 others were hospitalised with the disease.

Of them, 3,413 people were hospitalised in the first 22 days of June while 9 others died of dengue at the same time.

In January, 1,161 people were hospitalised, while 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

At the same time, 10 people died of dengue in January, 3 in February, 7 in April and 3 in May.

Of the hospitalised patients in the past 24 hours, 136 patients were admitted in Barishal, 64 in Chattogram, 43 in the Dhaka South City Corporation, 21 in the Dhaka North City Corporation, 38 in different districts of Dhaka, 15 in Khulna, two in Mymensingh and 10 in Rajshahi.

The vector-born disease dengue has arisen as a serious public health concern in the country over the past several years.

A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data. Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3, 21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2, 44,246 hospitalisation between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.

Last year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 reported cases. A total of 100,040 patients recovered during the period.
