Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said that Bangladesh Navy had become a modern, technology-based and three-dimensional force to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the Bangladesh Navy’s summer presidential parade, held at Chattogram Naval Academy Sunday morning.


The army chief emphasised that young officers should always be prepared to protect the country’s sovereignty by embodying honesty, discipline and self-sacrifice.

‘The Navy continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding the sovereignty of the country’s maritime borders, protecting maritime resources, combating sea crimes and ensuring good governance,’ he added.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman reminded the new recruit cadets of their sacred duties to their country and the nation, urging them to discharge their responsibilities with utmost sincerity.

‘Discipline and sincerity towards duties are two important basics for achieving professional excellence and becoming an ideal troop,’ said the army chief.

At the beginning of the parade, General Waker inspected the parade in a jeep followed by eight platoons of new officers saluting him.

After the long extensive training, the army chief presented awards to those who excelled the training. Some 52 new naval officers were commissioned at the ceremony, including 44 midshipmen and eight direct entry officers.

Among the commissioned officers, eight are women and four are foreign naval officers.

Senior officers from the army, navy and air force, as well as senior government officials, local dignitaries and guardians of the new officers were present at the ceremony.
