The Border Security Force of India pushed at least 24 more people, including eight children, into Bangladesh through two border points in Khagrachari and Feni on Thursday. With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has reached 1,555.

Human rights group Amnesty International on Thursday said that the Indian government must immediately halt deportations of Rohingya men, women and children.

The organisation also said that the Indian government must recognise them as refugees and treat them with dignity and protection they deserved under the international human rights law.

‘In the past month, the Indian authorities allegedly deported at least 40 Rohingya people, including children and older people, by forcing them off a naval ship and giving them life jackets before abandoning them in international waters near Myanmar,’ said the Amnesty International in a press release issued on Thursday on the eve of World Refugee Day to be observed across the globe today.

In a separate incident, the Indian authorities also forced over 100 Rohingya people across the border into Bangladesh, said the release.

On Thursday, 13 people were pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian BSF through Taindong border at Matiranga upazila in Khagrachari district.

Confirming the matter, Matiranga upazila nirbahi officer Monjur Alam said that six women, five children and two men were pushed into Bangladesh at about 4:30am on Thursday.

‘Their identities are being verified. They initially claimed that they are originally from Narail and entered India in different times,’ he said, adding that further steps would be taken after identification.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Feni reported that the Indian BSF pushed 11 persons into Bangladesh through Jashpur border point at Chhagalnaiya upazila of the district in the early hours of Thursday.

The BSF pushed into Bangladesh three children, seven women and a man through Jashpur border at about 2:00am on Thursday, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh.

BGB-53 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mosharaf Hossain said that the people were handed over to the Chhagalnaiya police station.

The BGB company commander has lodged a verbal protest with the BSF regarding the incident, he said, adding that the process of sending a protest letter to the BSF was underway.

The detainees claimed that they were residents of Jessore, Jhenaidah and Satkhira districts and entered into India through Benapole at various times between 2020 and 2024 through brokers.

They also said that 350 people were sent to Agartala from Mumbai and had been spread across various areas of Tripura for push-ins.
