
Academics, diplomats and journalists on Thursday at a seminar in Dhaka opined that the interim government should not get involved in any regional conflict over resolving the Rohingya issue.
They also said that the country should take steps instead to repatriate the Rohingyas living in Bangladesh.
Niti Gabeshana Kenrda organised the seminar at the National Press Club on Rohingya repatriation with its chief executive Shakil Ahmed in the chair.
Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, a former diplomat and senior research fellow of South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance of North South University, said that Bangladesh should not get involved in any regional conflict over the repatriation of several lakh Rohingyas living in Bangladesh.
He said that Bangladesh should continue to provide humanitarian aid to Rakhine and increase cultural as well as trade relations with Myanmar.
Former Jahangirnagar University professor and political scientist Dilara Chowdhury said that now Myanmar was facing internal conflict and Bangladesh should give a humanitarian passage to Arakanese people.
Mohammad Hasan Nasir, chief executive of Nexus Defence and Justice, said that the interim government should take decision on the issue of safe return of Rohingyas in Bangladesh considering national security of the country.
Academic Mahbubul Haque said that the issue of Rohingya repetition was a very delicate issue so it should be resolved on the basis of discussion.
Journalist Porimal Palma said that the interim government should take decision about giving a humanitarian passage to Rakhine on the basis of consensus of political parties of Bangladesh.
