
At least five people, including a Higher Secondary School Certificate examinee, were killed in road accidents in Nilphamari, Meherpur, Jhenaidah and Naogaon on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that two motorcyclists were killed when a bus hit them at Kamarpukur Bazar under Saidpur upazila in Nilphamari at about 7:30am on the day.
The deceased are Masud Rana, 28, a resident of Dalua Munshipara village under Kamarpukur union and Nur Islam, 30, of Kujipukur village of the upazila.
A Shyamoli Paribahan bus hit a motorcycle from opposite direction, leaving its two riders dead on the spot, said Moazzem Hossain, sub-inspector of Taraganj Highway police station.
In Meherpur, a Higher Secondary School Certificate examinee was killed and two others were injured after a human hauler lost its control and overturned at Gangni upazila in the district at about 3:30pm, BSS reported.
The deceased is Nahid Hossain, 18, a resident of Elangi village under the upazila.
In Jhenaidah, a man was killed when an engine-run vehicle hit him at Bhayna village under the Harinakunda upazila of the district at about 10:30am.
The deceased is Nazmul Huda, 29, a resident of Bhabanipur village of the upazila.
Meanwhile, BSS also reported that a woman was killed and six members of a family were injured in a head-on collision between a pharmaceutical company vehicle and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of Naogaon Police Lines in Naogaon at about 9:30am.
The deceased is Parveen Akhter, 55, a resident of Rasulpur village in Sapahar upazila of the district.
Naogaon Sadar police officer-in-charge Noor Alam Siddiqui said that the accident left seven auto-rickshaw passengers injured.
The injured were taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital, where Parvin succumbed to her injuries, he said.
