
The Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 133.11 crore in border areas and other places of the country in May, said a press release of the paramilitary force on Monday.
The seized items include 1.512kg gold, 10,544 pieces sarees, 5,140 three-piece/shirt piece/chadar/blanket, 3,472 ready-made garments, 19,314 metres cloth, 2,52,029 cosmetics, 5,443 imitation jewellery, 2,471,551 fireworks, 17,523 cubic feet wood, 3,151kg tea leaves, 92,487kg betel nut, 53,040kg sugar, 20,442kg fertiliser, 29,985kg coal, 100kg yarn/current net, 341 mobiles, 17,065 mobile displays, 6,540 electronic items, 15,112 glasses, 6,543kg fruits, 5,960kg edible oil, 1,010 litres of diesel/octane, 1,526kg onion, 8.826kg garlic, 20,642kg cumin, 11,236 packets seeds, 50.191kg fuchka, 9,179kg fish, 50,603 pieces shrimp fry, 934kg coffee, 2,25,343 pieces chocolate, 1,131 cows and buffaloes, four stone statues, 13 truck or covered vans and 15 pickups, four private cars and microbuses, 92 boats, 26 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and easy-bikes, 72 motorcycles and 22 bicycles.
The seized weapons include two domestic pistols, five foreign pistols, two 9mm pistols, two shot/pipe guns, five magazines, four crude bombs, 24 bullets and one hand grenade.
A huge quantity of narcotics, including 6,20,966 pieces yaba tablets, 10.935kg heroin, 23 grams crystal meth ice, 1.410kg cocaine, 10,521 bottles phensedyl, 8,983 bottles foreign liquor, 71.25 litres local liquor, 813 bottles canned beer, 1,913kg 630 grams marijuana, 2,29,602 packets bidis and cigarettes, 30,115 narcotic tablets/injections, 54,347 bottles Escafe syrup, five bottles LSD, 20,493 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 737 MKDil/Cofidil and 6,83,604 pieces medicines and tablets, was also seized during the period.
In the border operation, BGB arrested 145 smugglers and 715 Bangladeshi citizens and 10 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border. Legal action was taken against them. Also, 390 Myanmar citizens who tried to enter Bangladesh were sent back to their country.
