At least two people died of Covid-19, while 25 new cases were detected in the past 24 hours till Monday 8:00am, according to health authorities.

The Directorate General of Health Services confirmed one death鈥攁 woman aged between 71 and 80 in Dhaka.

In Chattogram, a 75-year-old Mirsharai resident, Shafiul Islam, also died to the virus, as reported by the civil surgeon鈥檚 office.

With these fatalities, the country鈥檚 Covid-19 death toll this year rose to six.

Since the first case was detected on March 8, 2020, Bangladesh has recorded 29,505 deaths and 20,51,858 total cases.

On June 11, the DGHS warned of a potential fresh wave due to new Omicron sub-variants, issuing an 11-point advisory urging mask use, hand hygiene, and avoidance of public gatherings.

DGHS director general Md Abu Jafor also recommended booster doses for adults over 18, pregnant women, seniors, and immunocompromised individuals.

Despite rising infections in India and an uptick in domestic positivity rates, public adherence to safety measures remains low, with no visible government enforcement of the guidelines.
