At least one more dengue patient died and 249 others were admitted to different hospitals across the country during the past 24 hours till Sunday morning.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, including the latest death this year a total of 30 people died of the vector-born disease and 5,988 others were hospitalised.


The deceased is a man aged between 51 and 60 years.

Of the hospitalised patients in the past 24 hours, 134 patients were admitted in Barishal, 39 in Chattogram, 35 in the Dhaka South City Corporation, eight in the Dhaka North City Corporation, nine in different districts of Dhaka, eight in Khulna, seven in Mymensingh, five in Rajshahi, three in Rangpur and one in Sylhet.

The vector-born disease dengue arises as a serious public health concern in the country over the past several years.

A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data. Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3, 21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2, 44,246 hospitalisations between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.

Last year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 101,214 reported cases. A total of 100,040 patients recovered during the period.
