A Bangladesh national died along the border with India at the Jhulipara border point of Haribhasa union under Sadar upazila in Panchagrah district early Sunday.

The police said that they found injury marks in both the legs of the victim, Razu Islam, 35.

Raju is a son of Abdul Quddus of the area.

Local people said that the victim’s family members and locals, on hearing the cry of Raju, rescued him from near his house while it was raining in the area.

They said that the family members rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex.

They said that several people were killed in the Indian Border Security Force’s firing along the same border in the past.

Nilphamari’s BGB-56 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza said that Quddus told them that his son died of stroke on the way to hospital.

‘We have talked to two BGB patrol teams and a number of local people. None of them heard any sound of gunshot. As there are injury marks in the victim’s legs, we need more investigation to find out the cause of the death,’ the BGB official said.

Panchagrah district superintendent of police Mohamamd Mizanur Rahman said that the police would make comments after the investigation.

Haribhasa Union Parishad chairman Syed Noor-E-Alam questioned the truthfulness of the claim of death due to suffering stroke as there were bullet-injury marks in his legs.

‘Several people were killed in BSF firing in the area in the past,’ he added.
