About 20,000 unsuccessful candidates under the latest non-government teacher’s registration examinations on Sunday urged the authorities concerned to pass them all and give them certificates.
Several hundred candidates took position in front of the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority office in the capital throughout the day with their demand.
A large number of police had also been deployed in front of the office.
The authority officials said that they had sent the demand to the education ministry the same day for further action in this regard.
‘We cannot give the pass mark to a candidate who failed to give us answer,’ NTRCA acting chairman and member Mohammad Nure Alam Siddique said, adding, ‘By increasing pass rates we cannot compromise the standard.’
The government formed the NTRCA in 2005 to provide certificates following tests to aspiring teachers of the non-government secondary level schools, higher secondary level colleges, degree colleges and equivalent madrassahs and technical educational institutions.
From the first to the 17th batches, the authority provided 6,76,662 certificates.
From the 13th batch, the NTRCA got the responsibility to give recommendations to these educational institutions of the aspiring teachers against their vacant positions.
In November 2023, the authority published a release for the 18th teacher’s registration examination against which around 19 lakh candidates applied.
The preliminary (written) test was held on March 15, 2024, and the results were published on October 14, in which a total of 83,865 candidates passed.
Following viva voce, out of these candidates, 60,521 passed as per the final results published on June 4.
Since morning a section of the 18th batch unsuccessful candidates took position in front of the NTRCA office and submitted a memorandum to the authority in this regard.
The unsuccessful candidates alleged that they had been shown failed in the viva voce even though they had done well.
According to the memorandum, there were around one lakh vacant positions and only around 60,000 candidates passed the viva voce and under some boards only one passed out of 30 candidates while under some boards 29 passed out of 30 candidates.
They demanded certificates of teachers for all unsuccessful candidates by reconsidering the viva voce results.
NTRCA acting chairman Nure Alam Siddique said that as per the teachers registration exam rules there was no scope for reconsidering the exam results.
For that reason they had sent the memorandum to the ministry for its decision, he said, adding that they called the Ramna police for ensuring their security.
Replying to a question, he said that around 3,000 candidates who passed the preliminary test were absent in the viva voce.
