A Bangladeshi expatriate on Friday night was fined by a mobile court for an arrangement to marry an underage girl at Gournadi upazila of Barishal.

A mobile court led by Gaurnadi upazila assistant commissioner for land and executive magistrate Rajib Hossain fined Shahin Howlader, 31, for ‘child marriage’.

According to mobile court sources, marriage of Shahin was arranged with a 16-year-old girl at Gournadi upazila.

On information, the magistrate arrived at the scene and stopped the marriage.

Although the parents of the girl fled the scene, Shahin was arrested and fined Tk 80,000 under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act by the mobile court, said the sources.

Shahin, however, was released after paying the fine as per the court verdict.

Earlier, Shahin was arrested by the same mobile court while trying to marry another child at another place 20 days ago.
