
The joint force on Thursday rescued a leader of Juba League who has been abducted from Satkania in Chattogram on Wednesday.
The victim, Zahid Uddin Mintu, 48, former president of the Naluya union unit of the youth front of the Awami League, activities of which as well its front bodies were recently suspended, was rescued at a remote forest area near the Fultala Sluice Gate of Kanchana in the upazila.
According to police, Mintu and his younger brother were abducted from Boiker Para area of Eochia union around 9:00pm on Wednesday.
The abductors reportedly lured them out under the pretext of offering a sand dredging contract and then held them hostage.
The abductors later released Mintu’s younger brother on the condition that he would arrange a ransom of Tk 15 lakh.
Satkania police station inspector Sudipto Reza said that upon receiving information about the abduction, a joint force launched an operation throughout the night. ‘Mintu was eventually rescued from a forested hill area. The abductors fled the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, and left Mintu behind.’
‘Mintu is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Legal action will be taken after a complaint is filed,’ said Reza.
