Former president Abdul Hamid returned home from Bangkok of Thailand early Monday on a Thai Airways flight while the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s uncle, Sheikh Kabir Hossain, left Bangladesh for Singapore on Sunday morning through the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka.

Hamid landed at HSIA at about 1:25am on Monday following medical treatment in Bangkok. The former president, who is facing a case over attacks on the mass uprising procession, left Dhaka on May 8 that drew protests from different political parties and quarters.


Responding to reporters’ queries about the legal action against Hamid, home affairs adviser retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury after visiting the Jatrabari police station on Monday said that action would be taken against whoever was found guilty in the investigation.

Asked about the Sheikh Kabir’s departure, inspector general of police Baharul Alam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday that there was no embargo on Sheikh Kabir flying aboard.

Sheikh Kabir, chairman of Sonar Bangla Insurance Limited, held important posts in many social, financial and educational institutions during deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s different terms. The Sheikh Hasina-led authoritarian Awami League regime was ousted on August 5, 2024 amid a student-led mass uprising.
