At least 109 women and 75 girls were victims of violence across the country in May, according to a report published by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Monday.

Of the victims, 34, including 22 girls, were raped while seven of them were gang-raped and four were murdered after rape in the month, said a press release.


At least 14 incidents of attempts to rape were reported in the month, according to the report.

The report, prepared based on news reports in 15 national dailies, revealed that one girl and two women were subjected to physical assault while five women and girls faced sexual harassment.

A total of four women died mysteriously while 14 others committed suicide and 43 women and girls were murdered for various reasons.

Ten girls and three women were victims of stalking while one girl was victim of child marriage.

The report also revealed that one woman was tortured for dowry while three women were murdered for the same reason.

One girl and four women were burnt while nine women and girls were victims of domestic violence.

The report also revealed that one domestic worker was abused in May.

A total of three women and girls were victims of cybercrime, according to the report.
