The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday filed two cases against additional deputy inspector general of police Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Shimul and his wife Farhana Rahman on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 2.48 crore.

ACC director general Md Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing said that the commission approved two cases against Shimul and his wife for amassing illegal wealth.


According to the case statements, one case was filed against Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, who is now attached to Armed Police Battalion Specialized Training Centre in Khagrachari as additional DIG, amassed illegal wealth worth Tk 2.09 crore.

ACC filed the other case against Rafiqul Islam鈥檚 wife Farhana Rahman on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Tk 39.02 lakh. Shimul is also accused in the case.

Earlier, the ACC started an inquiry into allegations of amassing illegal wealth through corruption including bribery, and money laundering against Rafiqul Islam.
