A case was filed on Friday night against 22 individuals over the attack on the residence of Jatiya Party chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader in Rangpur city on Thursday night.

A total of   22 people, including the convener of the Students Against Discrimination platform in Rangpur, Imtiaz Ahamed Imti and National Citizen Party organiser, Nahid Hasan Khandoker, were accused in the case.


Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman said that Jatiya Chhatra Samaj, student wing of the Jatiya Party, leader Arif Ali filed the case on Friday night.

‘We have received the complaint and will take necessary measures after proper investigation,’ added the police officer.

Jatiya Party leaders and activists, meanwhile, held a protest rally on Saturday afternoon in the city condemning the vandalism and arson attack.

They also brought out a procession that paraded main roads chanting slogans blaming the NCP and Students Against Discrimination leaders and activists for the attack.

Jatiya Party co-chairman and former Rangpur City Corporation Mayor, Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa said at the rally that Jatiya party had supported the Students Against Discrimination from the beginning.

‘We helped the students and arranged treatment for the injured,’ he said.

He alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to remove the Jatiya Party from the national politics. 

He alleged that leaders and activists the NCP and SAD platform were behind the attack.

Mostafa also threatened to wage a tougher movement if the attackers were not arrested within 24 hours.

A group of miscreants attacked GM Quader’s house, vandalised parts of the house and set fire to a motorcycle parked in the house compound at Senpara in Rangpur city on Thursday night, hours after he had arrived in Rangpur.
