A group of robbers robbed Tk 2 lakh in cash and 10 bhoris of gold from the ancestral home of additional deputy inspector general of Railway Police Abida Sultana in village Thengarband under Madhyapara union in Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur early Saturday.
The police said that a group of six or seven masked individuals entered the three-storey house at about 3:30am by cutting a window grill.
The group then entered the bedroom of the parents of the additional DIG on the second floor by breaking open the door, tied up her father Najmul Alam, and held Najmul and his wife hostage at knifepoint while they looted the money and gold, the police said.
Only Najmul and his wife reside in the house.
Kaliakair police station officer-in-charge Riyad Mahmud said that the police visited the spot immediately after receiving the information.
鈥楾he matter is under investigation and legal procedures are underway,鈥� he said.
