The Supreme Judicial Appointment Council on Wednesday called for applications from aspiring candidates seeking appointment as additional judges to the High Court Division.
In a public notice issued by High Court registrar Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui, interested individuals have been asked to submit their applications in the prescribed form, along with a passport-sized photograph, by June 22. Submissions can be made either by post or in person to the office of the Supreme Court Registrar General.
This is the first such invitation for applications since the interim government, on January 21, promulgated an ordinance establishing the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council headed by the Chief Justice, in accordance with Article 95 of the Constitution—first framed in 1971 but never fully implemented until now.
The council has been empowered to make recommendations for appointments of the Supreme Court judges.
The notice clarified that those who had already submitted applications need not reapply.
