
The Border Security Force of India pushed 67 more people into Bangladesh through the borders in Meherpur, Satkhira, and Kurigram districts on Tuesday.
Of them, 30 were pushed through a border point in Meherpur, 23 through a point in Satkhira and 14 through a point in Kurigram, according to officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police.
With the latest push-in incidents, the number of people forced to get into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has reached 880 though the BGB and the police took tight security measures along the border.
The Indian BSF and Navy began pushing people, including Indians and Rohingyas, into Bangladesh since May 7.
The BSF pushed 14 people through Boraibari border in Roumari upazila of Kurigram district on Tuesday morning, said BGB officials.
A tense situation was prevailing at Boraibari as BGB personnel and local people created a resistance and BSF troops fired sound grenades, they said.
BGB-35 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Hasanur Rahman said that the BSF had fired sound grenades.
‘We have detained 14 people. We are verifying their identities,’ he added.
Indian BSF pushed 30 people, including nine women and 12 children through Anandabas border in Mujibnagar upazila, according to BGB officials.
BGB-6 Battalion in Chuadanga commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan said that the BGB detained them at about 4:30am on Tuesday.
‘We have handed them over to the Mujibnagar police station,’ he added.
Mujibnagar police station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that poliuce had informed their families in Kurigram district of their present whereabouts.
‘We will hand them over to their families,’ he added.
The BSF pushed 23 persons into Bangladesh through the Kushkhali border in Satkhira Sadar upazila early Tuesday, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
The Indian force reportedly pushed them into Bangladesh at about 5:30am. However, their citizenship and identities had not been confirmed as of noon.
Kushkhali Border outpost commander Subedar Mejbah Uddin, said that the 23 individuals were detained and later sent to the 33-BGB Battalion headquarters in Satkhira.
India has begun pushing people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, into Bangladesh since May 7 when a war-like situation prevailed between India and Pakistan.
According to Bangladesh authorities, Bangladesh has 4,156 kilometers of border with India, of which some 180 km fall on water bodies over various parts of the country and 79 km on the Sundarbans.
