
July Oikko, the alliance of 35 socio-political organisations, on Sunday called for unity among all forces of July mass uprising to resist Indian conspiracy and the resurgence of fascist power in Bangladesh.
They also said that as long as the July fighters are alive, no foreign conspiracy would be allowed to succeed in the country.
The alliance held a protest rally that started at around 3:45pm in front of the National Museum at the capital’s Shahbagh.
Addressing the rally, speakers said that political differences may exist, but all must stand united, irrespective of party affiliation, against Indian interference and fascist resurgence.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Md Habibur Rahman Habib said, ‘We will no longer accept Indian subjugation or subservience to any foreign power.’
The people of Bangladesh would live and act on their own terms, he added.
Ariful Islam Adib, senior joint convener of the National Citizen Party, said that Bangladesh regained its independence and sovereignty through the blood of thousands of martyrs, and those who echo Indian narratives or align their rhetoric with Indian media would be rejected by the people and sent to India.
Rashed Khan, general secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, said that reforming the advisory council is a must to ensure justice for genocide, reforms, and a neutral election. Without reconstituting the council, no new state-building process would be possible, he added.
Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, said that their support for chief adviser Professor Yunus would remain as long as he stands for the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Among others, Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka south unit assistant secretary Muhammad Delwar Hossain, convener of United Peoples Bangladesh Ali Ahsan Zonaed, Leaders from Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh and Islami Chhatra Shibir also delivered speech at the protest rally.
The rally, moderated by July Oikko organiser AB Zubair, began with revolutionary songs marking the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The event was inaugurated by Anisur Rahman, elder brother of July martyr Ashiqur Rahman Hriday. Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, a key organiser of the alliance, delivered the opening speech, while Plabon Tarique delivered the concluding remarks.
Earlier, on May 6, the alliance was formed by 35 organisations under the banner ‘July Oikko’ demanding a ban on the Awami League and trial of those responsible for what they called the July genocide.
