Muhammad Asaduzzaman

Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Muhammad Asaduzzaman passed away in Rajshahi Friday morning. He was 76.

He breathed his last at the emergency unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital at about 7.30am, leaving behind his wife, a son and a daughter and scores of relatives and office colleagues to mourn his death.


Born in a Muslim family at Kellabaroipara village under Godagari upazila in the district, Asaduzzaman was a brother of former minister Barrister Aminul Haque and former inspector general of police Enamul Haque.

A former executive director of BMDA, he has made epoch-making contributions to the field of irrigation, agriculture and rural development in the region, particularly the Barind area.

After obtaining a graduation degree on irrigation and water management from Bangladesh Agriculture University, Mymensingh in 1972, he started his career as an irrigation engineer at the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation.

He innovated and promoted prepaid metres, smart card-based irrigation and cost-effective and efficient irrigation benefiting the farmers enormously in the region.
