A case was filed on Thursday over an attack carried out allegedly by a collaborator of the Awami League and his supporters on the premises of Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday night.
At least six journalists were injured in the incident that took place at about 9:00pm on Wednesday, said a press release issued by the DRU.
Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Khaled Mansoor said that the case was filed on Thursday evening.
No one has been arrested so far, he added.
The injured are DRU president Abu Saleh Akon, office secretary Rafiq Rafi, members Mashiur Rahman, Mahbub Hasan, Delwar Mohin and Mofizul Sadiq, said the DRU press release.
‘AL collaborator Zakir Hossain and his followers carried out the attack for asking about looting of a shop in front of the DRU office,’ DRU president Abu Saleh Akon said.
He demanded fair investigation into and trial of the attack.
The DRU, a professional body of working reporters, in its press release said that AL collaborator Zakir Hossain along with his followers looted goods of a shop called Chairman Tea Stall in front of the DRU office.
They looted goods worth Tk 50,000, the DRU alleged.
When DRU member Mashiur Rahman asked about the looting incident, he was attacked in a pre-planned manner.
The DRU president and others rushed to the spot in the wake of the incident and they were also attacked, the release said.
The attackers attacked the journalists with a pistol, locally made weapons and sticks, leaving them injured, the release added.
