Around 30 shops were burnt to ashes in a fire at Muslim Block Bazaar in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati early Wednesday.
The fire broke out from a cloth shop of the market at about 1:00am and engulfed the adjacent shops, said Baghaichhari police station officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir.
At least 30 shops, including grocery, cloth, medicine and tea stalls were burnt to ashes in the fire, he added.
The fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit and spread to nearby shops immediately.
As there is no fire service station in the upazila, local people, police and Border Guard Bangladesh members brought the fire under control after about one and half hours of effort.
