The Bangladesh Water Development Board on Wednesday began its drive to remove illegal structures from the land acquired for the flood control embankment in Mirpur Bheribandh.

The drive cleared illegal occupations and structures from the land acquired for the flood control embankment between ‘chainage km 8.50 (Panchabati) and km 14.00 (Goranchatbari 8-Vent Regulator)’, said a BWDB press release. 


Around 100 acres of land in Mirpur Beribadh were freed from illegal occupation during the drive that started at around 9:00am and continued until 5:15pm.

The drive will resume this morning, according to the release. 

During the drive, illegal shops and structures belonging to Maisha Construction Ltd, Karim ReadyMix, ABC ReadyMix, Shell, Sadi Filling, Jack Bangladesh, Path Builders, Amin Mohammad Group, Dhaka Boat Club, Turag Recreation Centre, NDE ReadyMix Plant-2 and various other structures in Berulia area were removed. 

The drive was carried out with the support of the district administration, police, Bangladesh Army along with other stakeholders in presence of executive magistrate.
