The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has adopted a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against mob violence in the capital, said deputy commissioner of Ramna Division Masud Alam on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre in the morning, DC Masud made the remarks in response to journalists’ queries.

‘We have zero tolerance towards any kind of mob formation. Both the inspector general of police and the DMP commissioner have given strict instructions not to allow any mob creation,’ he said.

The DC’s statement came in the context of a recent incident in Dhanmondi, where a group of people vandalised the residence of one Golam Mostafa on Monday night.

Responding to a question about the three coordinators who were briefly detained at Dhanmondi police station in connection with the incident and later released, DC Masud said, ‘They were released after giving written undertakings that they would not get engaged in such acts or be involved in any mob creation in the future.’

The police official reiterated the department’s firm stance against any attempts to create unrest through public gatherings or unlawful assemblies.
